House of Basaraba

While it’s hard to say whether any members of European royalty were related to Genghis Khan, it’s believed that the Basarab dynasty that ruled the province of Wallachia in Romania were the descendants of Genghis Khan. Very little is known about the origin of the dynasty, except that the founder was called Thocomerius (Tihomir), which is a Russian-Tatar name that refers to a prince that was confirmed to be a descendant. The house’s name served as an origin of the name of Bessarabia and for several places in Moldova and Bulgaria.
